We’ve spent our whole lives being reminded that reading is fundamental. When you love reading as much as we do, you have probably realized that reading can add to internal dysphoria. We have so few literary icons who are described as looking like us, and when they are it’s either something that they are overcoming, a token, or a punchline.
Not only do we want to see ourselves as worthy of celebration and excitement, we are willing to help that start happening. We want to have a space where people can find books where they are represented, review books for diversity and inclusion, and even help authors have resources to learn to write as fat positive cis and trans women, as well as non-binary people (regardless of assigned gender at birth), from a place of empowerment.
