New Year, Same Amazing YOU!

Diet talk is at an all time high around the New Year, as people set their often soon to be abandoned goals and head into the new year armed for deprivation. What they don’t often realize is that they language that they are using is toxic, and this time of year it is in a sprinkler…hitting everyone who is just trying to walk past.

I resolve to head into 2022 with a goal of better loving myself. I am grateful for my body, I am grateful for my community, I am grateful for each day. I am worthy of great things, and so are you and this can be the year that we stand and receive them.

So, when Betty Forgetty doesn’t consider your feelings when talking about her weight, try to remember that is a failing on her part…and not a reflection of your value and/or beauty. You are a miraculous creature, every inch, in any direction. You have probably dealt with a lot of Forgetty types, and this year…if you can, it’s ok to tell them to save it.

Something like, “I appreciate that you have goals, and I will always cheer for you, but please don’t equate your fat with badness. I am enrobed in good, and that kind of thing tries to get into my self-worth.” I am trying to turn my brain away from fat = bad, and remind myself that I am wrapped in goodness. I am capable of strength, love, joy, sadness, sexiness, rage, elation and more.

You are not a reflection of other people’s baggage, and they should not be elevating themselves by hurting you. We are stronger together and the more that we tell them no, the better. Normalizing our bodies in books and media that are consumed by people of all sizes is incredibly valuable in teaching people what they haven’t realized.

Let’s resolve to surround ourselves in goodness and strength. We are better together. That is a resolution that we are proud to get on board with.

You are amazing, march into 2022 knowing that. We’ll be marching with you!

Happy New Year!
