In Community, There Is Healing

Fat Girls in Fiction: A Healing Community

When I started Fat Girls in Fiction it was to uplift fat women (regardless of sex at birth). It was to show positive representation because when we can see ourselves in stories, we are able to feel more connection to the world around us. That is profoundly moving and makes a difference. We have created a community where people can heal from and unpack fatphobia. Right now, as the founder of Fat Girls in Fiction I think we need to widen our scope a bit.

After the SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe V. Wade, that community is even more important. I am going to try and use this platform to make our voices heard. I am also going to put more time and effort into making this community we have made here deeper, richer, and welcoming.

For starters, for the month of July, I am going to donate the money from the Fat Girls in Fiction patreon to the Abortion Fund. If you are not a patreon member but would like to be a part of our donation, feel free to use the Fat Girl in Fiction venmo and we will get the money to support the cause.

Also, we will host our first Fat Girls in Fiction listening session on Wednesday July 29th at 8 PM cst. We will all gather in the video lounge on the Fat Girls in Fiction Discord server, and we can listen and share. It will be a safe space to feel seen and heard.

Now is the time that we must find strength and community in each other. I hope you find a way to heal your heart and move forward during this uncertain time, because that is the only thing I know, we must move forward. It is going to take all of us to correct this course.
